1. RECITATIVO
Diana
Was mir behagt, ist nur die muntre Jagd!
What only contents me is a spirited hunt!
Eh noch Aurora pranget,
Even before Aurora shines,
eh sie sich an den Himmel wagt,
before she ventures across the sky,
hat dieser Pfeil schon angenehme Beut erlanget!
this arrow has already landed agreeable prey!

Diana
Jagen ist die Lust der Götter,
Hunting is the pleasure of gods,
Jagen steht den Helden an!
hunting becomes a champion!
Weichet, meiner Nymphen Spötter,
Clear way, my nymphen mocker,
weichet von Dianen Bahn!
clear from Diana's path!

Endymion
Wie? schönste Göttin? wie?
How so? loveliest goddess? How so?
Kennst du nicht mehr dein vormals halbes Leben?
Do you no longer remember the first half of your life?
Hast du nicht dem Endymion in seiner sanften Ruh
so manchen Zuckerkuß gegeben?
Did you not bestow on Endymion during his gentle sleep
many a tender kiss?
Bist du denn, Schönste,
Are you then, loveliest,
nu von Liebesbanden frei?
now free of the bonds of love?
Und folgest nur der Jägerei?
And only pursuing the hunt?
4. ARIA
Endymion
Willst du dich nicht mehr ergötzen
Will you no longer be captivated
an den Netzen,
in the nets
die der Amor legt?
which cupid lays?
Wo man auch, wenn man gefangen,
Where one too, if one is caught,
nach Verlangen,
Lust und Lieb in Banden pflegt.
cultivates desire, lust and love
under its bondage.

Ich liebe dich zwar noch!
I in fact do still love you!
Jedoch ist heut ein hohes Licht erschienen,
However, today a noble light has appeared,

mit meinem Liebeskuß
empfangen und bedienen!

der Wälder Pan,
Pan of the woods,

So gönne mir, Diana,
So do not begrudge me, Diana,
daß ich mich mit dir itzund verbinde
that I currently remain bound to you
und an "ein Freuden-Opfer" zünde.
and ignite an offering of Joy.

Ja! ja! wir tragen unsre Flammen
Yes! yes! we carry our torches
mit Wunsch und Freuden itzt zusammen!
together now with wishes and joy!

Pan
Ich, der ich sonst ein Gott
in diesen Feldern bin,
I, who am otherwise a god
in these fields,
ich lege meinen Schäferstab
I lay my shepherd’s staff
vor Christians Regierungszepter hin,
down before Christian's scepter of governance,
weil der durchlauchte Pan
for this serene Pan
das Land so glücklich machet,
makes the land so happy
daß Wald und Feld und alles lebt und lachet!
that forest and field and everything, live and laugh!
7. ARIA
Pan
Ein Fürst ist seines Landes Pan!
A prince of his land is Pan!
Gleichwie der Körper ohne Seele
Just as the body without a soul
nicht leben, noch sich regen kann,
does not live, nor can it move,
so ist das Land die Totenhöhle,
so is that land a hollow of death,
das sonder Haupt und Fürsten ist
which is without a head and prince,
und so das beste Teil vermisst.
and thus missing the best part.

Pales
Soll denn der Pales Opfer hier das letzte sein?
Shall then for Pales, this offering here be the final one?
Nein! Nein!
No! No!
Ich will die Pflicht auch niederlegen,
I too will pay my respects,
und da das ganze Land von Vivat schallt,
and while the entire land resounds with hurrahs
auch dieses schöne Feld
this lovely field too
zu Ehren unsrem Sachsenheld
zur Freud und Lust bewegen.
will be stirred to joy and glee
in glory of our champion of Saxony.
9. ARIA
Pales
Schafe können sicher weiden,
Sheep can safely graze,
wo ein guter Hirte wacht.
where a good shepherd watches.
Wo Regenten wohl regieren,
Where regents govern well,
kann man Ruh und Friede spüren
one can sense calm and peace
und was Länder glücklich macht.
and that which makes a land prosperous.

So join in
und lasst des Tages Lust vollkommen sein!
and let the pleasure of the day be complete!

weil Diana bei der Nacht

an der Burg des Himmels wacht,
watches from the skyward castle,
weil die Wälder grünen werden,
that the woods become green,

Entzücket uns beide,
Entrance us both
ihr Strahlen der Freude,
you beams of joy,
und zieret den Himmel mit Demantgeschmeide!

Fürst Christian weide
Prince Christian graze
auf lieblichsten Rosen, befreiet vom Leide!
upon most precious roses, freed from sorrows!

Pales
Weil die wollenreichen Herden
As wool-rich herds
durch dies weitgepriesne Feld
lustig ausgetrieben werden,
happily flock upon
this widely heralded field,
lebe dieser Sachsenheld!
long live this champion of Saxony!

Ihr Felder und Auen,
You fields and meadows
laßt grünend euch schauen,
show yourselves green,
ruft Vivat itzt zu!
call out now hurrah!
Es lebe der Herzog in Segen und Ruh!
Long live the duke in blessing and peace!

Ihr lieblichste Blicke, ihr freudige Stunden,
You most precious vistas, you joyous hours,
euch bleibe das Glücke auf ewig verbunden!
remain ever bonded with happiness!
Euch kröne der Himmel mit süßester Lust!
Heaven crown you with sweetest pleasure!
Fürst Christian lebe! Ihm bleibe bewusst,
Long live Prince Christian! Remain apparent to him
was Herzen vergnüget,
what amuses the heart,
was Trauren besieget!
and conquers grief!
