ERSTER TEIL (Part I)
1. CORO
Es wartet alles auf dich,
All wait upon you
daß du ihnen Speise gebest zu seiner Zeit.
that you might grant them
food in due season.
Wenn du ihnen gibest,
If you impart to them
so sammlen sie,
then they gather,
wenn du deine Hand auftust,
if you open your hand
so werden sie mit Güte gesättiget.
then they will be satiated with goodness.
2. RECITATIVO BASSO
Was Kreaturen hält
What creatures abound
das große Rund der Welt!
upon the great sphere of the world!
Schau’ doch die Berge an,
Just look to the mountains
da sie bei tausend gehen.
where they roam in the thousands.
Was zeuget nicht die Flut?
What is not spawned by the flood?
Es wimmeln Ström’ und Seen.
Streams and seas are teeming.
Der Vögel großes Heer
The bird, of great multitude,
zieht durch die Luft zu Feld.
soars through the air to the field.
Wer nähret solche Zahl,
Who nourishes such numbers,
und wer vermag ihr wohl die Notdurft abzugeben?
and who indeed is capable
of providing for their needs?
Kann irgendein Monarch nach solcher Ehre streben?
Can any a monarch aspire to such distinction?
Zahlt aller Erden Gold
Can all the earth’s gold compensate
ihr wohl ein einig Mal?
for this, even one single time?
3. ARIA ALTO
Du Herr, du krönst allein das Jahr mit deinem Gut.
You Lord, you alone crown the year with your goodness.
Es träufet Fett und Segen
It trickles with fat and blessing
auf deines Fußes Wegen,
along the paths of your feet,
und deine Gnade ist’s, die alles Gutes tut.
and it is your mercy that does all good.
ZWEITER TEIL (Part II)
4. ARIA BASSO
Darum sollt ihr nicht sorgen noch sagen:
Therefore you should not worry nor say:
Was werden wir essen, was werden wir trinken?
What will we eat, what will we drink?
Womit werden wir uns kleiden?
With what will we be clothed?
Nach solchem allen trachten die Heiden.
The heathens strive for such things.
Denn euer himmlischer Vater weiß,
But your heavenly father knows
daß ihr dies alles bedürfet.
that you require all these.
5. ARIA SOPRANO
Gott versorget alles Leben,
God provides for all the living
was hienieden Odem hegt.
which cherish breath here below.
Sollt’ er mir allein nicht geben,
Shall I alone not be given
was er allen zugesagt?
what he has promised to all?
Weicht, ihr Sorgen, seine Treue
Succumb, you worries, his faithfulness
ist auch meiner eingedenk
is meant for me as well
und wird ob mir täglich neue
and regardless of me will be renewed daily
durch manch’ Vaterliebs Geschenk.
through many a gift of fatherly love.
6. RECITATIVO SOPRANO
Halt ich nur fest an ihm mit kindlichem Vertrauen
If I simply hold on to him tightly with childlike trust
und nehm mit Dankbarkeit, was er mir zugedacht,
and accept with gratitude what he intends for me
so werd ich mich nie ohne Hülfe schauen,
then I will never view myself as helpless,
und wie er auch vor mich die Rechnung hab gemacht.
and how too has he paid off my debts for me.
Das Grämen nützet nicht, die Mühe ist verloren,
Fretting is of no use, labor is lost,
die das verzagte Herz um seine Notdurft nimmt;
for the despairing heart is consumed by pressing need;
der ewig reiche Gott hat sich die Sorge auserkoren,
the ever bountiful God has taken these worries upon himself,
so weiß ich, daß er mir auch meinen Teil bestimmt.
thus I know that he also allots me my portion.
7. CORALE
Gott hat die Erd’ zugericht't,
God has fashioned the earth
läßts an Nahrung mangeln nicht;
to lack nothing in way of nourishment;
Berg und Tal, die macht er naß,
Mountain and valley, he waters them,
daß dem Vieh auch wächst sein Gras;
that for cattle grass also grows;
aus der Erden Wein und Brot
from the earth, wine and bread
schaffet Gott und gibt’s uns satt,
are crafted by God, and given to satiate us,
daß der Mensch sein Leben hat.
that the human has his living.
Wir danken sehr und bitten ihn,
We greatly thank and request of him
daß er uns geb’ des Geistes Sinn,
that he grant us minds of the Spirit,
daß wir solches recht versteh’n,
that we truly comprehend such things,
stets in sein'n Geboten geh’n,
constantly go by his commandments,
seinen Namen machen groß
magnify his name
in Christo ohn’ Unterlaß:
in Christ, without ceasing:
so sing'n wir recht das Gratias.
thus we rightly sing this thanks.
