Weinen, Klagen, Sorgen, Zagen,
Weeping, wailing, worries, woes,
Angst und Not
anguish and despair
sind der Christen Tränenbrot,
are the bread of tears for Christians

Wir müssen durch viel Trübsal
We must traverse great tribulation

Was Gott tut, das ist wohlgetan
Whatever God does, is beneficial
dabei will ich verbleiben,

Not, Tod und Elend treiben,
driven by despair, death and misery
so wird Gott mich ganz väterlich
in seinen Armen halten:
yet God, completely like a father,
will hold me in his arms:
