1. CORO
Herr Christ, der ein'ge Gottes Sohn,
Lord Christ, the Son of God united
Vaters in Ewigkeit,
with the Father in eternity,
aus seinem Herzn entsprossen,
sprouted from his heart,
gleichwie geschrieben steht,
just as it stands written,
er ist der Morgensterne,
he is the morning star,
sein' Glanz streckt er so ferne
he spreads his beams afar
vor andern Sternen klar.

2. RECITATIVO ALTO
O Wunderkraft der Liebe,
O wondrous force of love,
wenn Gott an sein Geschöpfe denket,
as God pondered his creation,
wenn sich die Herrlichkeit im letzten Teil der Zeit
as glory itself at the ultimate moment in time

Ah, bind the soul with the cords of love,
O Jesu, ach zeige dich kräftig in ihr!
O Jesus, oh vigorously reveal yourself in her!
Erleuchte sie, daß sie dich gläubig erkenne,
Enlighten her, that she discern you in faith,
gib, daß sie mit heiligen Flammen entbrenne,
grant that she be ignited with holy flames,
ach wirke ein gläubiges Dürsten nach dir!

4. RECITATIVO SOPRANO
Ach, führe mich, o Gott, zum rechten Wege,
Oh, lead me, O God, upon the proper path,
mich, der ich unerleuchtet bin,
me, for I am unenlightened,
der ich nach meines Fleisches Sinn
for I, in the thoughts of my flesh,
so oft zu irren pflege;
so often tend to error;
jedoch gehst du nur mir zur Seiten,
however if you but walk by my side,
willst du mich nur mit deinen Augen leiten,
you will simply lead me through your eyes,
so gehet meine Bahn
thus my path will proceed
gewiss zum Himmel an.

Oft to the right, oft to the left

laß mich in Gefahr nicht sinken,
let me not succumb to danger,
laß mich ja dein weises Führen
bis zur Himmelspforte spüren!
let me, indeed, sense your wise guidance
unto the portals of heaven!
6. CORALE
Ertöt uns durch dein Güte,
Slay us by your goodness,
erweck uns durch dein Gnad';
revive us by your grace;
den alten Menschen kränke,
inflict ancient humanity,
daß er neu' Leben mag
that it might gain new life
wohl hier auf dieser Erden,
indeed here upon this earth,
den Sinn und all' Begierden
