1. ARIA SOPRANO
Gottlob! nun geht das Jahr zu Ende,
Praise God! now the year comes to an end,
das neue rücket schon heran.
the new one already approaches.
Gedenke, meine Seele, dran,
Ponder this, my soul,
wieviel dir deines Gottes Hände
im alten Jahre Guts getan!
how much good your God’s hands
have done for you in the past year!
Stimm ihm ein frohes Danklied an;
Voice to him a joyful song of thanks;
so wird er ferner dein gedenken
as he will continue to think on you
und mehr zum neuen Jahre schenken.
and grant you more in the new year.
2. CORO
Nun lob, mein Seel, den Herren,
My soul now praise the Lord,
was in mir ist, den Namen sein!
all within me, praise his name!
Sein Wohltat tut er mehren,
He increases his benevolence,
vergiß es nicht, o Herze mein!
forget it not, O my heart!
Hat dir dein Sünd vergeben
He has forgiven your sins
und heilt dein Schwachheit groß,
and healed you of your great failings,
errett' dein armes Leben,
redeemed your meager life,
nimmt dich in seinen Schoß.

Mit reichem Trost beschüttet,
Showered with richest comforts,
verjüngt, dem Adler gleich.

So spricht der Herr:
Thus says the Lord:
Es soll mir eine Lust sein,
it shall be pleasure for me
daß ich ihnen Gutes tun soll,
that I can do good for you,
und ich will sie in diesem Lande pflanzen treulich,
and I will faithfully tend to you in this land
von ganzem Herzen und von ganzer Seele.

4. RECITATIVO TENORE
Gott ist ein Quell, wo lauter Güte fleußt;
God is a spring, where immense goodness flows;
Gott ist ein Licht, wo lauter Gnade scheinet;
God is a light, where immense mercy shines;
Gott ist ein Schatz, der lauter Segen heißt;
God is a treasure, known as immense blessing;
Gott ist ein Herr, der's treu und herzlich meinet.
God is a Lord, who intends all faithfully and sincerely.
Wer ihn im Glauben liebt, in Liebe kindlich ehrt,
Whoever loves him in faith, and venerates him in love, like a child,
sein Wort von Herzen hört
listens to the word from his heart
und sich von bösen Wegen kehrt,
and turns away from evil ways,
dem gibt er sich mit allen Gaben.
to them he gives himself with all these gifts.
Wer Gott hat, der muss alles haben.
Whoever has God also has everything.
5. ARIA (DUETTO) ALTO TENORE
Gott hat uns im heurigen Jahre gesegnet,
God has blessed us in the past year,
daß Wohltun und Wohlsein einander begegnet.
for good-deeds and well-being encounter one another.
Wir loben ihn herzlich und bitten darneben,
We praise him earnestly and at the same time request
er woll auch ein glückliches neues Jahr geben.
he also grant us a happy new year.
Wir hoffens von seiner beharrlichen Güte
We hope for his persistent goodness
und preisens ihm voraus mit dankbarm Gemüte.
and praise him in advance, with mercifully thankful minds.
6. CORALE
All solch dein Güt wir preisen,
We praise all such goodness from you,
Vater ins Himmels Thron,
Father, upon heaven’s throne,
die du uns tust beweisen
which you have promised to do us
durch Christum, deinen Sohn,
through Christ, your son,
und bitten ferner dich:
and furthermore request you:
gib uns ein friedsam Jahre,
give us a peace-filled year,
für allem Leid bewahre
safeguard from all sorrow
und nähr uns mildiglich.
and nurture us tenderly.
