Der Geist hilft unser Schwachheit auf

I.
Der Geist hilft unser Schwachheit auf,
     The Spirit helps us in our weakness;
denn wir wissen nicht, was wir beten sollen, wie sichs gebühret;
     for we know not what to pray, as is proper;
sondern der Geist selbst vertritt uns
     rather the Spirit itself intercedes for us
aufs beste mit unaussprechlichem Seufzen.
     for our good, with sighs too deep for words.

II.  ALLA BREVE
Der aber die Herzen forschet, der weiß,
     But the one who searches the heart, knows
was des Geistes Sinn sei;
     what is the mind of the Spirit,
denn er vertritt die Heiligen 
     because it represents the saints
nach dem, das Gott gefället.
     according to that which pleases God.

III.  CORALE
Du heilige Brunst, süßer Trost,
     You holy ardor, comfort sweet,
nun hilf uns, fröhlich und getrost
     help us now, joyfully and confidently
in deinem Dienst beständig bleiben,
      to remain constant in service to you,
die Trübsal uns nicht abtreiben.
     tribulation not impelling us.
O Herr, durch dein Kraft uns bereit 
     Oh Lord, prepare us by your might
und stärk des Fleisches Blödigkeit 
     and strengthen us against the foolishness of the flesh
daß wir hie ritterlich ringen,
     that we may forever knightly wrestle
durch Tod und Leben zu dir dringen. 
     through death and life, urgently toward you.
Halleluja.
     Hallelujah.
